Better Business Bureau serving Eastern North Carolina held its semi-annual “Secure Your ID” Day event on Saturday, April 21, 2012. Held at the Coastal Federal Credit Union on St. Albans Drive in Raleigh, more than 500 participants were provided with a safe way to destroy documents containing sensitive information. During the free community awareness event, BBB and Coastal distributed information to help educate consumers on ways to further protect themselves from identity theft. Participants dropped off an array of items that included check books, bank statements, school records, utility bills, credit card receipts and register receipts. In total, nearly 10 tons of documents were safely destroyed. Shredding services were provided by PROSHRED® Security and Cintas Document Management.
The next "Secure Your ID" Day event will be held on October 20, 2012.
