BBB held its semi-annual "Secure Your ID" Day event on Saturday, April 20. More than 700 participants took part in the free community awareness event and were provided with a safe way to destroy documents and electronics that may contain sensitive information, as well as disposing of environmentally hazardous electric devices.

Held at the Coastal Federal Credit Union on St. Albans Drive in Raleigh, nearly 30,000 lbs of documents were shredded. Shredding services were provided by PROSHRED® Security and A Shred Ahead®. GEEP, which stands for Global Electric Electronic Processing, provided consumers with collection of nearly 10,000 lbs of electronics and electrical devices for destruction through its secure reuse and destruction facility in RTP.

Curtis Media Group also served as sponsor promoting the event on three stations, WPTF, 96.9 BZJ and Funny 570. In addition, WPTF featured a live interview with Barfield. BBB hosts its "Secure Your ID" Day events in the spring and fall each year. The next event will be held in October 2013. For more event information, visit www.easternnc.bbb.org/secure-your-id.
